JOURNEY
2001.
37
X 37cm.
Watercolour
and
acrylic
on
paper.
Foremost
in
my
mind
when
I painted
this
was
my
mother's
death
in
August
2001.
And
the
feeling
that
I was
about
to
begin
a new
direction
in
my
life
and
work.
The
figure
in
red
seems
to
represent
both
my
mother
and
myself.
She
is
entering
another
world
where
a fusion
of
space
and
time
creates
marvellous
perspectives.
The
figure
on
the
right
looks
like
a priest
or
judge.
He
seems
a benevolent
presence.
The
watchful
head
on
the
left
is,
I imagine,
a spectator
contributing
yet
another
interpretation
of
the
picture.
