MOZART, MATISSE, BLANCHE ET MOI
1990. 28 X 23 cm.
Edition of 6. Drypoint printed on both sides of Saunders paper, the verso in
linear patterns echoing Mozart's quintet in E-flat which was playing while I
drew on the metal plates. Hand-bound in boards covered by paper printed by NdA,
as is the slipcase.
This book came about by serendipitous links between the music, a photo of my
mother as a young girl in Paris, one of myself as a child, and a book about
Matisse which happened to be lying on the table. The text in the double page
shown above reads:
"Blanche's daughter Nathalie, about 9 years old, likes to draw and wants
to become an artist.
(Don't forget Mozart's quintet is still playing)
She can't choose between the music the fruits the flowers the jugs on tables
the photos in family albums the places the faces the stories without beginnings
or endings".
