SELF WITH TOOLS & FLOWERS

Looking in the mirror, I used scissors as a drawing tool and cut the main shapes I
saw out of card.

I inked these stencils with oil colours and repeated the process many times, putting newly inked pieces face down on the paper and rubbing the back until the image slowly emerged.

It seems a laborious way of working but I like the unique layered look of the printed image. The tools on the wall are among my essential materials, the flowers are the real world.

I'm not sure why I added the crinkly fabric partly obscuring my face - perhaps the approach of time?
